I may or may not have done that 50,000 times already… And while at it, Sidharth Malhotra’s bling-tastic sneakers caught my eye. (Yeah, not Katrina Kaif’s killer abs, not Sidharth’s handsome looks), but some menswear item that got my attention — talk about being consistent!

With the golden metal plaques, gold zip detailing, gold-tone thick soles and patent leather panels, this is a sneaker right up a baller’s alley. And Sidharth wore them like they were meant to be — with plenty of swag. You like?

P.S – Shahid Kapoor has this Zanotti model but in all black. Yep, I didn’t christen him Bollywood’s resident sneakerhead for nothing ;)

Fawad Khan, we missed you. It’s been what weeks, since we last bowed down to your sartorial greatness. And now that we have the opportunity to do so again, there’s a warm and fuzzy feeling inside our stomachs.

His latest turn at dazzling us came at the the 2016 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. It’s quite chilly Down Under right now, so trust him to dish us a masterclass on layering without looking like a Michelin Man. Sweatshirt and blazer sounds like a dubious combo, right? One is rooted in the smart casual dress code, while the other is as casual as it gets. But Fawad threw them on together and like a jefe, came up trumps.

While Fawad’s jacket (from Ermenegildo Zegna’s Made-to-Measure Casual Luxury line) came with the detachable quilted vest (how handy!), us mere mortals can still achieve this result with high-street sweatshirts and blazer. The trick is in keeping the fit of both the pieces as snug you can without feeling constricted.

I also love the colour scheme of the outfit: all muted and earthy and without any forced pop of colour. Yep, this looks gets a 10 on 10.

For the opening ceremony later in the day, he stepped out in a royal blue Corneliani suit — that fit him like a glove! — which was teamed with a burgundy slim tie (from Selected Homme), fitted white shirt (from Corneliani), brown Oxfords (from Dune) and a printed dress scarf (from Shingora). I simply looooooved the addition of the dress scarf — ’twas a next level menswear move, and one that straightaway took the outfit to the height of nocturnal elegance. What a swell look!

Furthermore, what struck me most from both the looks was how considered his wardrobe was for the event: the looks were in keeping with the occasion and the weather and not at all attention-seeking. Now I can’t wait to see what he brings out next!

“Now how do you top THAT?” — I murmured to myself as I was checking out pictures of Fawad Khan from the opening night of the 2016 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. But boy, he has gone ahead and done just that the following night.

Clad in a Ermenegildo Zegna dinner suit, shirt and bow-tie, Akshata Bhojania cummerbund and lace-ups from The Shoe Garage, he was THE picture of nocturnal elegance. Everything about this ensemble is bang on. Really, it’s a look to celebrate, capture in song and tell long wistful stories about around the campfire. Fawad (and Abhilasha Devnani), my hat is well and truly off.

His outfit earlier in the day was wonderful too, make no mistake about that. Once again, he went with warm colours in keeping with the nippy weather in Australia right now, and yet there was a crisp coolness to the black-burgundy colour combo of the outfit that very much suits his clean-cut style. Major love!

More often than not, Ranveer Singh’s outfit choices go over my head, but that was not the case with his getup at the Colgate Power Freeze launch.

Clad in a lightweight navy bomber jacket from Ermenegildo Zegna’s Made-to-Measure Casual Luxury line, Diesel slim jeans, fitted white tee and trainers from adidas’s EQT collection, he was looking as cool as the product he was launching. The DeHex Delalle sunglasses provided the quintessential Ranveer touch to the outfit, but I wish he skipped it altogether — it was indoors, after all.

In what can be termed a sight as rare as prudence in a Donald Trump speech, Rahul Khanna offered himself up for global consumption last week by stepping out for the launch of his new TV show, The Mavericks, on NDTV Good Times. And bugger me, was he in some fine form…

Clad in a navy windowpane DB suit from Ermenegildo Zegna’s Autumn/Winter’16 ‘Sartoria’ collection, white shirt, a repp bow-tie (from Brooks Brothers), black lace-ups (from Trèsmode) and a Presidential-fold crisp white pocket square, he looked like he stepped straight out of a James Bond film set. [Barbara Broccoli, are you lizzening? We’ve found Daniel Craig’s replacement for you ;-)]

Imran Khan sported this same suit (okay, okay, the fabric was a touch different) at the GQ Best Dressed party earlier this year and I found the styling to be too cluttered for my liking. But Messr Khanna here got it spot-on.

I particularly loved the choice of bow-tie: it gave the look a slightly retro, prom night feel and set off his youthful looks nicely. And oh, special mention for the fit of the suit —  it was untouchable. Guys, please take note of the length of the jacket sleeves: that’s the amount of shirt cuff they should be flashing.

Double denim and that too in the same shade sound downright iffy, right? I know the Gods of Style will smite thee with a bolt of lighting, but Sidharth Malhotra tried just that and came up trumps. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that it was the most memorable look from his Baar Baar Dekho promotion trail for me. Don’t believe me, just see it for yourself!

For the promotion trail to Comedy Nights Bachao, Sidharth turned up in a wonderfully off-centre three-piece suit from a Ermenegildo Zegna’s Autumn/Winter’16 collection, which he teamed with brown brogues from Zara, an ochre pocket square and a floral lapel pin.

The Zegna number is a decidedly modern and surprisingly laidback take on the uptight three-piece suit, and thanks to its wool denim material (achieved through Zegna’s exclusive fabric innovation), the horseshoe DB waist coat and the pleated trousers, it was a thing of beaut too!

But unfortunately the styling of the number was a let down. The pocket square had no business being here because of the wide lapels of the suit jacket. Only the lapel pin would have sufficed, but the choice of lapel pin here was ill-advised: the sea of indigo was crying out for a pop of colour. Don’t judge me, I watched the whole episode and the dark lapel pin that he sported didn’t add anything to the look. Still, it was the standout look for me from this round.

Yep, looks like Rahul Khanna sightings are turning out to be like ketchup off a bottle: when they come, they come all at once! No sooner had I proclaimed that his sightings are as rare as prudence in a Donald Trump speech did two come and that too within a space of few days. (We’re defo not complaining!)

First up was the unveiling of the Chandon x McLaren-Honda installation at Palladium, and true to form, he just concentrated on looking good without ruffling any feathers.

He opted for a navy suit that was tailored to absolute perfection, teaming it with a gorgeous pocket square and a pair of drooly double monks. That was simply masterful, Mr Khanna.

Next up was the launch event of luxury home décor e-commerce site CuroCarte, which saw him don a textured woollen three-piece suit from Canali’s Autumn/Winter’15 collection. Yes, yes, the fit of the suit was beyond reproach, but what bowled me over was the choice of a band-collar shirt to go with it — this was such an inspired move! The band-collar shirt, with its relaxed but refined vibe, downplayed the stuffiness of the three-piece suit and provided a nice point of difference to the outfit.

Being Anil Kapoor’s son and Sonam Kapoor’s brother, I was expecting Harshvardhan Kapoor to be well turned out for his official induction to Bollywood. But, I was in no way prepared for the sartorial show he put up for us at the Mirzya music launch. And don’t just take my word for it, see it for yourself!

He wore a pale blue and grey checkered suit from ZZegna’s Spring/Summer’16 line, and in what should be termed a next level menswear move, he paired the hip number with a silk white kurta from Raghavendra Rathore.

But this bold tailoring experiment would not have worked were it not for the pair of simple white sneakers from Zara: it lent the outfit the requisite air of effortless cool and imbued it with youthful attitude.

Fashion-forward with a touch of put-together smartness, this is exactly how a bright up-and-coming actor should be dressing, and for that I doff my hat to his stylists, Rhea Kapoor and Abhilasha Devnani. If this was the amuse-bouche, can’t wait to see what you two serve for the rest of the meal!

His father was there too to support him, looking every bit the man so deeply entrenched in the lore of Indian men’s style. Anil wore a charcoal grey and blue suit with tonal patterns from Ermenegildo Zegna’s Spring/Summer’16 collection, a crisp white shirt from Dolce & Gabbana and a pair of Oxfords from Dior Homme.

After Harshvardhan Kapoor’s fabulous sartorial turn at the Mirzya music launch I was wondering (y-es, I can be a vela like that at times :-p) if it was just a one-off or if he has the chops to consistently delight us with his outfit choices like his old man. But, going by his next couple of appearances I need not ponder anymore: the boy sure knows how to present himself tastefully in front of the public and media. Whaaat! You don’t believe me? Then just take a look at his get-ups for his interviews with Radio Mirchi and Mid Day.

First up was the interview with Radio Mirchi, for which he turned up in a deep blue suede jacket from Ermenegildo Zegna’s Spring/Summer’16 Made-to-Measure Casual Luxury line, a white Henley shirt from PostFold, Tommy Hilfiger jeans and adidas Originals Primeknit sneakers.

I simply loved the casual yet distinctly smart vibe of this outfit.

Harsh and his sister Rhea Kapoor (who will be styling him for the Mirzya promotion trail) must have really, really liked the ultra-soft suede number from Zegna, ‘cos he wore it the following day to another one of his promotional commitment , an interview with the tabloid Mid Day.

This time, the jacket was styled with a brown toned band-collar shirt from Bhane, black denims from Armani Jeans and Alberto Torresi brown boots. Harsh looks confident and comfortable here — the definition of effortless. And in so doing, the siblings have achieved yet another winning look.

Since we are on the topic of the suede Zegna number, I must tell you that Imran Khan sported it earlier in July, at Jitesh Pillaai’s epic birthday bash.

He wore it with green knitwear from ZZegna’s Autumn/Winter’16 collection, grey ‘Trofeo Cover’ dress trousers from Ermenegildo Zegna and chocolate brown full-brogues from Tod’s.

No sooner had my last post on Harshvardhan Kapoor’s artfully assembled casual looks gone up did another one come along for me to wax lyrical on.

This time, he retained the black denims (from Armani Jeans) and boots (from Alberto Torresi) from his previous appearance and swapped the suede jacket and the band-collar shirt for a grey mesh tee from Abhishek Paatni and a deconstructed blue shirt from Vaibhav Singh.

Effortless, quietly confident and fashion-forward — what’s not to love about this ensemble, right?

His next stop on the Mirzya promotion trail was almost diametrically different though: he dialled up the smartness quotient a few notches by way of a tan Harrington jacket, the crispest of white shirts buttoned all the way up, skinny navy chinos (all from Jack & Jones) and a dark brown belt (from Marks & Spencer). A pair of white Hermès sneakers undercut the seriousness, in a juxtaposition that looked both assured and deliberate. Major, major love!

But it was during the unveiling of the second Mirzya trailer did Harsh bring out the big (style) guns. Mixing and matching patterns is one of the more risky decisions you can take when putting together a high-profile outfit, but it makes for a rather wonderful spectacle if you can pull it off. And that is exactly what Harsh did at Raipur. He donned a royal blue patterned sherwani by Gaurav Khanijo, teaming it with matching pleated dress trousers and a striped band-collar shirt from Bhane. Dark brown brogues from Dolce & Gabbana rounded off this fabulous look. He cut an exuberantly rakish figure here — exactly how a hyped-up newcomer should be dressing.

For starters, I love how this Rhea Kapoor-styled ensemble is brimming with youthful energy, perfectly reflecting Harsh’s upbeat disposition.

And then the olé-worthy experiment with tailoring! I love a prim suited-up look as much as the next person but every once in a while I look forward to freeing up of the silhouette — and that is exactly what Harsh is serving us during the Mirzya promotion trail.

The key to pulling off tailoring experiments is to restrict the colour palette to one shade, but Harsh has gone one step ahead by combining several different intensities of the central shade to create an overall effect of depth and subtlety.

Lastly, his choice of sneakers could not be more of the zeitgeist. The adidas NMD R1 Primeknit is a solid urban favourite, but Harsh’s one is just a bit cooler than the other colourways on offer of this silhouette. They come with reflective laces and tiny flecks of reflective material throughout the mesh construction that glow in low light. Super cool, no? If you like, you can get yourself a pair from here :-)

Tiger Shroff

Bless, he scrubbed up! And in so doing, Tiger Shroff brought his handsome best to the fore. But I wish the trousers were (way) more tapered and there was a little accessory in there somewhere. Still, he deserves a pat on the back for the effort.

Such a shame that a potentially winning rakish outfit was ruined by the choice of footwear. The jewel-toned suit coupled with the flecked shirt made for a real style power move — the shoes added one-too-many point of interest to the ensemble. A nice try still, Mr Kapoor.

Karan Tacker in Kartik Dhingra, Crimson and Trumpet Shoes

Karan Tacker too is guilty of the same sartorial offence. The hefty windowpane checks of the Kartik Dhingra suit were statement enough; the lightning bolt lapel pin from Crimson just added noise to this spiffy outfit.

He’s the King Of Clubs and a fine dandy while at it, so it’s no surprise that he’s here. Nicely done, Rij Eapen!

The velvet bow-tie and the pocket square simply distracted our eyes from that super cool jacket from Troy Costa on Acquin Pais. Such a shame, or else this look would have been in the next section. Boo.

Saif Ali Khan

I really, really wanted to be knocked sideways by this ensemble of Saif Ali Khan, but unfortunately I wasn’t. He considered every dapper detail for this event and ended up deploying them all. Between the contrast collar shirt and the co-respondent shoes, the checkered tie and pocket square and the Albert chain on the waistcoat, he brought out one too many pieces from his sartorial arsenal. Messr Khan, next time, remember that less is always more.

The Super Hits

Amitabh Bachchan

Just how dignified did Amitabh Bachchan look in that bandhgala? The pocket square and the brass buttons added the dash of something extra that was needed on the night he was bestowed ‘The Legend’ award.

Where Kunal Kapoor, Karan Tacker and Acquin Pais faltered, Vicky Kaushal prevailed. When your suit is shouting, make sure the rest of your outfit whispers. And Vicky followed that tenet, allowing his patterned jacket by Gaurav Khanijo to be the focus of his outfit.

I’m a sucker for desi menswear, so there’s no way Rahul Bose wouldn’t have made it to this end of the list. He looked mighty fine, just like he has stepped out from the times of the British Raj. Swoon!

In that immaculately tailored three-piece dinner suit by Dolce & Gabbana, grey patterned bow-tie from Gieves & Hawkes and tasselled smoking slippers from Christian Louboutin, Rahul Khanna looked like he waltzed straight out of the sets of Cinderella. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. In a business where hysteria is king and taste is often forgotten, we respect this approach Rahul has towards dressing up.

MY! What have we got here? Back-to-back sightings of Rahul Khanna! And the latest one (from the unveiling of Nautica’s Autumn/Winter’16 collection yesterday) is more of a treat for us: he was decked out in smart casuals (from Nautica). Yeah, he’s rarely papped in casual wear, but you’ll be pleased to hear that Mr Khanna looks as sharp in them as he does in a suit.

Jeans, shirt, cotton bomber jacket, white low-tops. It sounds so, well, humdrum, doesn’t it? But trust him to deploy some special alchemy to turn such base metal into sartorial gold. He looks just so elegant! And the trick to that lies in the fit and restraint: notice how all the items of clothing fit him like a glove and that there are no random colours thrown in there. And of course, the cleanliness and simplicity of the sneakers are also important: we wouldn’t recommend doing this with a pair of weathered Stan Smiths or blingy Zanottis or studded Givenchy Tysons or aggressive Rick Owens Geobaskets.

Keep it simple, keep it appropriate for the weather and the occasion and pick pieces that resonate with your own personality. Because when you feel good, you automatically look good!

It takes imagination and confidence to experiment with your tailoring and that is exactly what Harsh has been doing during the Mirzya promotion trail. Take, for instance, his appearance at The Kapil Sharma Show, which saw him slip in a burgundy long-line shirt from Vaibhav Singh under a navy mélange wool suit from Paul Smith. Tan full brogues from H by Hudson made for appropriate finishing touch to this unerringly contemporary look.

It was a subversive take on the age-old suit-and-shirt combo, and I for one was thoroughly on board it. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that this combo is fast becoming a Harsh Kapoor signature style move, ‘cos this is the third time in three weeks that we’ve seen him deploy it.

Also, I loved the colour combination here: it never occurred to me that burgundy and navy could contrast this happily! Cheers for the idea, Rhea Kapoor :-)

Then, he wore a maroon suit with faint black stripes from Manish Bansal’s Winter-Festive ’15/16 collection during one of the stops on the Mirzya promotion train to Delhi. I told you, tailoring is anything but rigorous when it comes to Harsh. The relaxed cut of the suit meant that the number needed equally breezy companions and Abhilsha Devnani, Harsh’s stylist, obliged. She picked a white tee and a pair of white trainers from Adidas Originals to go with the hip number. It’s criminal to look so laidback yet smart, Harsh!

It’s not all tailoring that comprised Harsh’s Mirzya promotion wardrobe; he wore routine stuff like bomber jackets and jeans as well.

I particularly liked the ensemble of Suket Dhir bomber, Jack & Jones shirt, Armani Jeans black denims and Adidas trainers. That Suket Dhir number is a thing of absolute beaut and thanks heavens, Abhilasha let it be the focal point of the look. It’s a nice, breezy look — what’s not to love, right?

Ranbir Kapoor attended the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samiti 2016 a few days back suitably dressed in a maroon silk kurta and black churidaars from Raghavendra Rathore. I’m a sucker for desi menswear but that outfit had me at the lush colour!

But there’s another thing I want to bring your attention towards: the fit of his churidaars. It’s perfect! And this is possibly the first time I’ve seen a Bollywood hombre sport churidaars that are not sagging and for that props must be given to his stylist, Vainglorious.

He must really like maroon for desi wear ‘cos he sported it earlier in the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil promotion trail: a claret deconstructed salwar suit from Antar-Agni’s Autumn/Winter’16 collection. Ranbir looked just so dashing in it — hubba-hubba!

Speaking of Ae Dil Hain Mushkil promotions, it looks like Ranbir is on a mission to prove that he really is the ‘male Sonam Kapoor’, ‘cos like her, he too has been sporting brands that are either high-end or for those in-the-know — and is looking rather rakish while at it. So far, he was seen in high-end designer brands such as Tom Ford, Burberry, Tod’s, Corneliani, Ermenegildo Zegna, Neil Barrett, Belstaff and Dsquared2, which he mixed up with niche or streetwear-inspired brands like Andrea Ya’aqov, Guidi, Avant Toi, Lost & Found Ria Dunn, O’Keeffe and OFF-WHITE c/o VIRGIL ABLOH™.

But it was the sighting of OFF-WHITE c/o VIRGIL ABLOH™ during the Dance+ finale that got my attention. For the uninitiated, OFF-WHITE c/o VIRGIL ABLOH™ is THE buzzy brand of the moment, seen on the likes on Rihanna, Kanye West, Gigi Hadid, Justin Bieber, Joe Jonas and the other cool cats du jour. It is designed by Virgil Abloh, Kanye West’s long-time creative consultant, who blends an edgy streetwear aesthetic with luxury-level construction and positioning. Ranbir sported the black ‘Diagonals’ lo-tops from the brand’s Spring/Summer’16 collection, pairing it with skinny-ish black jeans and white ‘Lightning Bolt’ t-shirt from Neil Barrett, and dark taupe satin bomber from Burberry. Mighty impressive stuff!

So, which one of Ranbir’s looks so far from the Ae Dil Hail Mushkil press junket is your fave? Mine — in case you haven’t figured yet! — was the one to the Dance+ finale. It was imbued with youthful attitude, it was contemporary — and he looked confident and comfortable in it, which is the definition of effortless.

First up was the Mirzya screening he hosted last week for ladies (what a smooth operator!), for which he turned to his signature style move. He wore a navy wool Harrington jacket from Ermenegildo Zegna’s Autumn/Winter’15 collection, pairing it with the white Raghavendra Rathore kurta he wore to the Mirzya music launch (#ItsCoolToRepeat, remember?), black denims from Armani Jeans and black boots from Alberto Toressi.

I loved this silhouette the first time he paraded it and I still love it. Why change a winning formula, right? Nicely done, Abhilasha Devnani.

Next up was the Filmfare Glamour & Style Awards, where he was bestowed the ‘Fashion Debut’ award. To pick up the gong, he wore a navy windowpane jacket from Ermenegildo Zegna’s Autumn/Winter’16 line, black dress trousers from Selected Homme, powder blue shirt from Brooks Brothers, an argyle print tie from San Baweja and pocket square from The Meraki Project. Patent wingtips from Dior Homme provided the classic finishing touch to this dapper look. Just a wee whinge: I wish he straightened the tie before he stepped out on the red carpet.
